etan
Etan makes some ridiculous grindcore remixes straight from south Maryland that are sure to turn a few heads that are familiar with the base track and even you aren’t familiar, you’ll probably still dig it anyway. The Death Set remix I’m sharing with you clocks in at five minutes and thirty-seven seconds but you’ll most likely never tire of it before it completes and in fact you may be wanting more.
If you dig the following track then you should listen to more of Etan’s mix work at his MySpace.

super mario compact disco
Everyone knows about the horrible licensing flukes that can come out of video game franchises; you can look at any cartoon, and almost all movies based off videos games and be certain that it’ll probably suck. Today I have something to share with you that sucks just as much as the Super Mario Show and the movie, although I must say that John Leguizamo makes a fine Luigi.
Back in ‘93 Nintendo of Japan got Ambassadors of Funk to create an atrocious but awesomely nostalgic, inaccurate, and laughable sampler based electro hip hop album under the pseudonym, MC Mario. It’s terrible, but if you haven’t heard this shit yet than you owe to yourself to download these tracks and don’t worry, I won’t be sad at you for deleting it from iTunes after you play it.
Go on, right click these, I dare you.

madvilliany instrumentals (even you can freestyle!)
Cruising through my music collection, I noticed an oft forgotten piece of genius from Madlib’s seemingly endless discography. The tracks on 2004’s Madvilliany Instrumentals are some of the best and most interesting beats for rhyming you’ll ever hear. Otis Jackson Jr. obviously pounds out shit like this in his sleep, but at least in my humble opinion, it’s never a bad time to be reminded of what he’s done.
“Figaro” and “Curls” sample obscure jazz grooves, which expertly and inevitably will instigate some verbal convection. In the time it’s taken me to write this post, I’ve already dropped verses that I think even my mom would be proud of. So I encourage you, humble consumer, to create!

nicolay

One of my favorite hip hop outfits is The Foreign Exchange. Little Brother is one half of this project and the other half is Nicolay. The producer from the Netherlands consistently produces tight beats and his sampling skills are spot on. His beats were some of the first to convince me that I loved hip hop and I’m thankful for it.
I’ve got some mad Nicolay tracks to share with you today. One is a solo track from his City Lights album, one is an instrumental from The Foreign Exchange, and the other sampler is a track from his collab. with Kay Jackson of The Foundation. The new album is called TIME:LINE and it’ll be dropping on February 1st. I really can’t get enough of this sampler and I’m sure you’ll feel the same after a few samples. It’s really good.

MacWorld is today. El Jobso will be revealing some awesome Apple magic and if you want to follow along and/or see the transcript from the KeyNote then go here. Steve Jobs knows how to get a crowd excited and he definitely knows how to run a company. The man is an excellent businessman.
Speaking of businessmen, Canadian rapper Shad K. has a degree in business from Wilfrid Laurier University and he’s bi-lingual in French and English. His flow is exceptional and his message powerful and positive. His instrumentation and beat workings are really incredible too. I can’t believe I missed this album last year. It’s so refreshing to hear someone so talented as him actually have something incredible to say about his life and the world he lives in. He rhymes are relevant and tasteful. It’s good. It’s really good.
I feel guilty but I’m making up for it by listening now and givin’ you a chance to check out this wonderful music. Both of the trax I’m sharing with you come from his 2007 album, The Old Prince.
Now give this man a listen.

burial
It’s snowing outside and I’m wearing a sweater vest and sipping on some filtered water while chatting with my girlfriend. I always discover something new about myself when I talk with her; it’s very meditative. She’s an extremely lovely human being and her ability to offer advice is really unmatched by anyone I’ve ever met before.
Speaking of the word meditative; I’m a fan of meditative-esque music. (She is too actually!) Post rock, ambient electronic; those two definitely fit the bill for me a lot but I really like hip hop ambient sounds, especially from the likes of Nicolay and J Dilla. Another genre that fits this bill is dubstep. Our boy, Burial gets the job done.
We all love people who conceal their identity. It’s pretty bad ass. Just look at Banksy, the graffiti artist, the nameless, faceless man has been beautifully vandalizing the streets for years. Burial is the moniker of the anonymous dubstep artist from London. Burial creates absolutely gorgeous and critically acclaimed music that is easily danceable.
Enjoy two trax from his 2007 release, Untrue.

the hood internet
I’m sure everyone has already blogged about The Hood Internet but I haven’t gotten a chance to express my gratitude for the genius of these awesome bloggers and musicians. Essentially they collect, create and archive ridiculously good mash-ups between mainstream artists and indie artists. It’s impressive and fresh.
They just started last year and they’ve already acquired a following and some awesome merch hoodies that say “Listen to The Hood Internet.” Bad ass right? Definitely. Some people may say that mash-up artists and remixers don’t have much artistic integrity and besides, some of the remixes and mash-ups aren’t as good as the originals. In 2006, Gregg Gillis of Girl Talk gave the haters reasons to shut the fuck up with his incredibly wonderful mash-up booty-shaking magic, Night Ripper. It’s incredible album and if you haven’t had a chance to let Girl Talk grace your ears then you’re missing out. See one of his shows to, if not just to see him strip in front of a laptop. Shit is life changing and sexually charged. Hot stuff, I’m telling you.
Speaking of being sexually charged, our man R Kelly is a sex icon to the kids. Regardless of whether or not you think he was guilty or you think he has no talent, the man has a following and every single he puts out gets some major airplay on the terrestrial radios. Fuck terrestrial radio? I agree, but everything on them isn’t exactly shit.
I’m a Flirt is Mr.Kelly’s newest sensation and it’s been on 2007 song of the year lists for oh seven but we really don’t care about that. See, this post is about The Hood Internet and one of my favorites remixes by ABX. It’s fucking hot ass solid mash-up between Broken Social Scene’s Shoreline and I’m a Flirt. It’s absolutely golden. If you aren’t familiar with either song, the remix won’t seem as cool but once you hear all three songs you’ll wonder if you’ll ever need to hear he original versions individually ever again.
Enjoy these trax and your weekend!

danny breaks
Hip hop is incredible stuff if done correctly. Contemporary drums & bass artist, Danny Breaks does just that. His ability to sample, mix and create fantastic beats is rarely unmatched by anyone. He’s über-talented and underrated which sucks because the world needs his music right now, especially within the genre of hip hop.
If you haven’t heard any of the magic Danny Breaks is able to spin then you’re definitely in for a treat. Sorry this post is so short, I have to be getting to class. Have a great Wednesday and enjoy this track!
